By sarah webb: My mother was a pupil at the Technical College in the thirties. She knew it as the Derby Art School. Her mother worked in the millinery Department of the Midland Drapery, where she met her father who was a photographer in the city, Alfred Stevens, and he had his studio in Victoria Street, later moving to Albert Street where he worked until his death in 1944. My mother, who is now 93 and nearly blind, has managed to identify her old haunts from these photographs with many exclamations of delight!"
